The Australian Society of Orthodontists recommends a visit to the orthodontist at 7 – 8 years of age. At this stage there will be a mix of both milk teeth (deciduous) and adult teeth. The Cause of a malocclusion (bad bite) can be detected and in some cases interceptive treatment started.
An early consultation enables the orthodontist to access a child’s bite and establish how their mouth is developing. If present a developing problem can be detected and a plan established to most effectively correct the issue. Some patients will benefit from early intervention while others can be placed on a review program so that treatment is started at the optimal time to produce the best outcome for your child.
