Children

The Australian Society of Orthodontists recommends a visit to the orthodontist at 7 – 8 years of age. At this stage there will be a mix of both milk teeth (deciduous) and adult teeth. The Cause of a malocclusion (bad bite) can be detected and in some cases interceptive treatment started.

Why treat early?

An early consultation enables the orthodontist to access a child’s bite and establish how their mouth is developing. If present a developing problem can be detected and a plan established to most effectively correct the issue. Some patients will benefit from early intervention while others can be placed on a review program so that treatment is started at the optimal time to produce the best outcome for your child.

Examples of common concerns

Narrow upper jaw causing a bad bite

Over retention of baby teeth

Excessive spacing between the front teeth

Large gap or deep bite between the upper and lower teeth

If you would like further treatment information please ask one of the receptionists for a complimentary consultation when you are in the clinic.
